Internal Mobility Is the Fastest Signal That Skills Data Works

Internal mobility is an unusually honest test of skills infrastructure. Unlike strategic workforce planning, where the feedback loop runs for years, matching internal candidates to open roles produces a verdict within a hiring cycle.

Run a real open role through the architecture and look at the shortlist. If the matches are people a good recruiter would have found anyway, the data is adding little. If the matches include credible candidates from adjacent functions that no one had considered, the architecture is doing genuine work.

This is also the fastest route to internal credibility. A single filled role sourced through capability adjacency does more to secure ongoing investment than any maturity assessment.

It is worth designing the first ninety days of any skills programme around producing exactly that outcome, rather than around completing the taxonomy.
